Friday was our last ministry day. It was also the longest day of our lives. We met down in the lobby at 4:30am and did not return from ministry until 2:00am the next day. Wow. (Sorry we didn’t get Carli’s Mag video in, we were all barely alive
) The ministry was great. We did some door to door inviting to pastor Tom’s (our Houston contact) church, a team was also at a park and go, where hundreds of people park to take the bus to work. We would hand them a granola bar and an invitation to church.
I must mention the donut man, because he is one of my favorite stories of this trip. After I dropped the kids off for door to door, I had to go #2 so bad. I mean SO BAD. I thought, but who is open at 5am? I started driving down the street and all of a sudden this little DONUT MAN shop appears. Inside was an asian man, his wife, and a 2yr old baby girl. What was it about him that impacted me the most? Perhaps it was his generosity. After he found out about our group, he gave our kids 3 bags of fresh made donuts, gave us a bunch of drinks for free. Our group came in later to sit down and his wife brought us trays of free donut holes. Wow. He said the Lord showed him it it more blessed to give than to receive. He loved the Lord. Opening his shop at 5am each day, he gets up at 2am to spend time with the Lord. I asked him when he goes to sleep and he said after he talks to and thanks the One at the end of the day. I found myself thinking about my commitment to the Lord, and how much complaining and excuses I have for not getting up to spend time with my Savior. God used the donut man to impact my life.
In the evening our team helped to facilitate a “Christian night” at a water park. From 7-11pm we helped facilitate various games. There was about 1,000 people. Let me just say that the crowd felt very inner city. At 11pm everything shut down and a service began. A few hundred young people stuck around for that. A rapper performed, and after that our team did the bondage. Pastor Tom spoke some and right before the altar call we did the drama Everything. I felt like it really captured the attention of the crowd, it was anointed. Our kids we giving their 110% on this tiny stage. A couple hundred of responded to the altar call. Thank you God.
All great things must come to an end. I believe that what happened on the inside of our teenagers in Houston will continue to live on back home. God used our team here to impact many, and changed our lives in the process. He is good.
